Stitch and Chat: Pattern Interruptus

Calann had worked up to the neck on her Rowan Straight top. We experienced one of those moments when we read in the pattern to make a note of the rows you've knit for the first half after you've knit them. We counted them after the fact. As she set to knit the front neck shaping, she is counting her rows so she can match when she knits the back.

There was a bit of a switcharoo when she divided for the front and back. The purpose was to strengthen the neckline. The directions at first seemed really confusing. Your best bet when you come to a set of directions that seem daunting, is to break it down by the punctuation. Take a technical leap of faith and knit it in order of how it is punctuated.

Calann has finished the back of the Ships Ahoy! Sweater from Adorable Knits for Tots. We reviewed intarsia and wrapping colors to avoid holes between color changes.

Cornelia took a break from knitting her customfit sweater to knit a Rasta Poncho and ended up with Bursitis! She had to take a break for ten days!!! Note to self, take breaks every 30 minutes, stretch, look up, etc.

Her poncho is off to the finisher.

She is back on track with her customfit sweater. We reviewed Make One increases.

Jane made huge progress on her Beech Hill Poncho until she came to class and made an illegal U turn. She ripped back and continued on.

While looking over Lori's ribbed hat, I noticed that she had unintentional diagonal ribbing, ribbing, and seed stitch depending on when she was interrupted. We have named this phenomena-non "Pattern Interruptus".

She wants to knit a poncho-ish cover up in Classic Elite Flash (Aran: 100% Cotton, 93 yards). She's going to knit and wet block a couple of swatches in garter to see what fabric she likes best.

Linda F came in wearing (what I will now refer to as) her purple stitch and chat shirt. She wears it to put me in a happy purple mood when she needs help.

Her double pointed needles got turned around and made a whole twisted business. The sleeve had to be pulled back a few rounds.

Voila! Finished Sock Yarn Sweater and striking while the skills are (relatively fresh) she is going to knit another one.

Trammi needed help demystifying the Popcorn stitch in the sampler blanket she is knitting. This is another case of following the punctuation. Of course it always helps when the teacher reads the pattern clearly!

She is knitting a gorgeous top in Anzula Dreamy (Fingering: 75% Merino, 15% Cashmere, 10% Silk, 385 yards) and Artyarns Beaded Silk & Sequins (DK: 100% Silk, 110 yards).

Linda M is following an old pattern for a v neck cardigan that was a "fill in the blank sweater". She had some misadventures reading the pattern and keeping the sections even. To her credit, she has been systematically finishing all her unfinished knits (that go as far back as 30 years). When she is all done, she will treat herself with a new project!

Wednesday

Eileen was stopped short on her Exploration Station. She had missed completing a double decrease on the previous row and didn't know how to fix it. To be clear, she had slipped two stitches, knit one and then forgot to pass the slipped stitches over the knit stitch. Very frustrating considering it was an easy fix. All she had to do was pull the slipped stitches over the knit stitch whenever she encountered and incomplete double decrease. Life being what it is, she got good practice in with a few more incomplete decreases.
