While I was knitting...

So this morning when I let the dogs out, they were going crazy sniffing around the woodpile on our deck (wrapped in a tarp). This is unusual as they've kind of forgotten that they are hunting dogs by breed (essentially name only). Clearly, there was some critter in there.

Last week it was under the deck that caught there attention (we think that was bunnies).

They don't even notice the bird who has made a nest over the light on the deck and is patiently waiting for her babies to be born all the while giving us the hairy eye.

Back to today. I went outside to knit on the deck, it's a beautiful day and I'm not working.

I see the woodpile rising and falling like it was breathing, first thought, it is windy. Then I notice something moving underneath. I got up quickly, with knitting of course.

I got a broom and with the screen closed as much as possible, I prodded the woodpile to push it out, it took a few tries and then THE BIGGEST DAMN RACOON I HAVE EVER SEEN runs out of the woodpile off the deck. I slammed the door shut, probably screamed (no one was home). This racoon was 2/3 the size of my golden retriever.

WHAT IF THERE A MORE IN THERE! IT’S LIKE FREAKING LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE or THE SUBURBAN VERSION OF WILD ANIMAL KINGDOM ON THE DECK!

Needless to say, I took my knitting onto the front steps to enjoy the day.

YIKES! And we think Connecticut is so civilized. It's a wild, wild world out there. I wonder if animal control would remove it?
