TGIF

One of my daughters joined me at stitch and chat today. Robin was already there when we arrived.

Robin and I reviewed the cables again and I know she’ll be fine. She’s totally got the concept down. Remember the booties from the other day? The cute blue ones? Well, she ripped them out at the very end. Bummer. This morning I was ripping out some crochet and my DH, observed and commented, “you must hate that”.

My daughter brought her crochet that she takes out at random intervals when she feels so inspired. She started out making an ipod cover from scratch, no pattern. It’s amazing what kids can do without the confines of “I need a pattern”. She just kept crocheting and measuring her work around her ipod. Later she moved on to another idea (short attention span) and cryptically asked for $1, a credit card, a pen, and paper. I wasn't on a "need to know basis". As she went along, I was given the $1 back. Turns out she’s making a wallet and needed the $1 for measurements. I still haven’t got the credit card back. I wisely gave her j. jill. They don’t sell anything that might interest her, although they do have flip flops, bags, and some sparkly things.

Making the wallet reminded Mary of one of her kids making things out of duct tape. Apparently this is a hobby that my kid shared. She has a duct tape wallet. I guess she's moved on.

Mary worked on her dressed up tank. I fixed some wayward stitches for her on one side. The second side is coming out much more uniform than the first. Practice makes perfect. We were both admiring the newest issue of Interweave Crochet. On the cover is a picture of a denim jacket with crocheted embellishments. Look out; we’re getting our denim jackets out!

Maureen left her poncho at home, there was nothing she had questions about until the second side of the poncho is done and we put it together. She brought a pattern for a feather and fan scarf that she got from a co-worker. Her daughter picked out some yarn and Maureen wanted to learn something new. I showed her the k2tog and yo. “Well” she said, “now I know what my mystery stitches were on my poncho…yo’s that weren’t in the pattern. Now she knows how to put yo’s in her work deliberately. She’s a quick learner and got the pattern down in the short time we were together.

I began the filet crochet border on my dressed up tank. I want to work through the pattern before next week's class.

I also made some progress in my new scarf pattern combining knit and crochet.

I love how the snowflakes are coming out.
