Post Rhinebeck Confessions of a Yarn-aholic

People have asked me if I had a good time and did I find good things.  The answer to both is yes.  There were some unexpected gems out there.  So, in no particular order...

Rich, natural, "rustic" pure wool yarn Mountain Vewe Coopworths (Aran: 100% Coopworth Wool, 150 yards) for my boot toppers pattern (soon to be published).

 

My mission for Miss Bab's booth this year was the colorway Perfectly Wreckless.  Allison (from Stitch and Chat) had knit Yowza Weigh It Shawl 3 . As a result, I became obsessed with the color. Initially I had planned on getting a skein of Yowza (the worsted weight) but the crowds were too thick at the Yowza section.  I found two mini skeins of Perfectly Wreckless in Yummy 2-ply Toes (Fingering: 100% Merino, 133 yards) on Saturday and figured I'd knit Leftie. The more I thought about it and saw Leftie samples around Rhinebeck, the less convinced I was that this would show up Perfectly Wreckless to its best potential.

Then I saw Loop and thought, "this is it".  Which of course meant I needed another skein of yarn to go with it.  Well, if I'm at Rhinebeck, I might as well get yarn from the same Vendor.  This train of though follows the philosophy of the book, "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie". The other skein was Hot Shot (Fingering: 80% Merino, 20% Nylon, 400 yards) in grey.

There is no plan for this bad boy. Rarely do we get our hands on the "Rhinebeck thing of the year"; Yummy 2-ply (Fingering, 100% Merino, 400 yards).

Miss Babs rides again with Keira yarn (Fingering: 100% Merino, 560 yards) for Hitchhiker or some type of scarf that will show off the colors.

Cute name, gorgeous yarn Duck Duck Wool 80/20 Merino Silk Fingering, 600 yards. This will be a lacey wrap when it grows up.  The red was too rich to resist.

This magnificent yarn will be Lilli Pilli.  I found this yarn on our way out.  We love Periwinkle Sheep yarn. These are Silky Singles (Fingering: 70% Superwash Merino, 30% Silk, 435 yards). They changed booths and we hadn't been able to find them.  I was completely star struck by this yarn.  The picture does not do it justice.

I had a chance to meet the dyer. While we were still in Rhinebeck I swatched - THAT'S  how excited I was about this yarn.

There was also this lovely little skein, I couldn't leave behind.  The colorway is aptly named Wallflower, (Aran: 100% Superwash Merino, 180 yards).  I loved the greys with a pop of hot pink.

We've always been drawn the the Into the Whirled booth.  They do a great job with their displays.  We shied away from the yarn because we were unsure how the color would play out as it was color blocked (I'm not sure if that's the right terminology).  This year they introduced kettle-dyed and we were besides ourselves with this yarn.  By the time we got there it was nearly sold out.  Lucky for us we fell in love with what was left.  

We each got two of the same colorway; I still think Nancy got the better two ;). Pakokku Sock (Fingering: 75% Superwash Merino, 25% Nylon). My plan is to knit Windward.

Lastly, I picked up another Fiberoptics Paintbox Gradient Kit to knit my Karma Chameleon pattern: Turquoise-Vivid Violet.

While we were there I had a chance to introduce myself to the dyer, Kimber, and show her my scarf.  I'd write more, however I have some serious knitting to do.
