Startitus

I'm still playing within my rules of 4 projects at a time, swatching allowed. We're just getting in so many fun yarns that I want to start new projects.

I won't officially start these 2 new projects until I sew the buttons on my white sweater and finish the top down sweater. It's strange now that I look forward to swatching as a way of playing hooky from my existing projects.

These 2 projects are samples for upcoming classes at Westport Yarns this fall.
I chose Ella Rae Lace Merino for the Spindrift Scarf by Lucy Neatby. It's a perfect pattern for variegated yarns.
I love funky patterns like this. I'm going to knit another swatch on a smaller needle for contrast. then I have to decide if I want to knit it lengthwise or widthwise. The swatch above was knit widthwise.

This is a picture of it knit lengthwise. It's a very different look.
We got in a variegated dk weight yarn from Mirasol called Hacho. I really love this colorway and it's so outside my comfort zone of variegated colors. I thought it might be really cool for the Tall Latte sweater by Doris Chan.
It's the focus of a class at Westport Yarns in October.

My original choice was Plymouth Worsted Superwash Merino. However when I re-read the pattern, I saw that it called for dk weight 5.5 sts/1" versus 5 sts/1" (the Plymouth yarn). That was another reason for swatching with the Hacho.
Here's the swatch in the shell stitch for "Tall Latte". I love how it looks and asked the kids what they thought for the Latte sweater. Their consensus was that it was too busy for the sweater, that it competes with the pattern stitch. Who knew they were so smart? It's possible they have been subconsciously paying attention to what I do. Scary thought.

I'm still enamored with this colorway and will make something with it. Tomorrow I'll swatch with the Plymouth yarn. Doris Chan had an introductory paragraph where she explained how you can work with yarn anywhere from dk to worsted weight. Works for me.

Definitely feeling the pull of the fall for knitting projects. Summer is o.k. for knitting. Every fall season is a reminder of all the reasons I like knitting/crocheting so much.
