Ktog

I met with Rose, Liz, Miriam, and Susan today. It's so great to keep in touch. Beth and Clea you were missed.

We had show and tell. Rose was interested in the Online Book Club Idea.
This is what I was thinking. If you're reading a book you're enjoying (or not!) and want to share, if you heard about a book and want to know if anyone else has read it, and/or if you read a book and would like to discuss it post a comment to a post in the book club category and I'll put it in the blog. I love sharing book titles with friends and family. I love to read.
You may be wondering how I fit in my love of reading and obsession with knitting. Books on tape (or cd). There are many ways to get them. There is Simply Audio Books, Audible Books, Ipod Store, your local public library, and of course book stores.
Rose has been busy knitting and crocheting while visiting her kids. Boy has she been productive.... The buttons on this sweater are a little stick figure that's so cute!

I loved her reverse stockinette on her blue tank. I want her to show me, I liked hers better. It's a great "basic" tank shape, sits just right.

Her Doris Chan crocheted sweater came out awesome.

Here's a picture of a baby sweater Susan made and this great Cottage Creations Rambling Rows blanket. COTTAGE CREATIONS by Carol Anderson are small booklets. They have detailed instructions, diagrams, illustrations, and drawings. These patterns focus seamless knitting and little finishing work! Miriam made one too and is making her own pillow version with some odd balls of yarn.

Liz made this great shawl, I tried to take a close up of the yarn to better show the effect, it came out wayyyy too close!

Knitting on into the Night

Wednesday night I met with Lisa, Elizabeth (joining the knitting night life this week), and Marianne. Left my camera at home, so no pix for this post. Sorry!

Lisa is working on an adorable baby bolero from the One Skein book. She's finished one front and the back (with a pretty eyelet pattern). It is so cute. The fronts and back are knitted in one piece then the sleeves. When it's finished, you pick up stitches to make a ribbing around the whole bolero.

Elizabeth is finishing her version of a forever sweater. She was down to the final 2 1/2 skeins of yarn (bulky with low yardage!) with the sewing, button bands, and collar to go. I think she's going to make it. If her daughter doesn't wear it (who it was initially intended for), she will! Then onto new knits!

Marianne is working on a sweater in Berroco Touche Yarn. It's a creative endeavor that she's having fun with.

I'm working on golf club covers for my father for Father's Day. I had to write a pattern, because clubs are bigger than they used to be. When my husband saw the covers I'm making for my dad, he exclaimed that he likes my dad's better. I think this means I'm making another set of golf club covers!

June 13th

Cheryl and I were the first to arrive today. There happened to be a woman behind us who asked if she was interrupting a meeting. I explained about the Stitch and Chat. It turns out that she was a Knit Together customer and is still knitting from her sale acquisitions. She may join us one day.

Cheryl will be vacationing in Maine this summer, I looked up stores in Maine for her and there is one in Kennebunkport. I don't know anything about it. There may be towns nearby that have yarn stores worth checking out too. Cheryl, if you find any good ones report back. Maybe we'll start a post category for yarn stores we've visited!

Here's a link for the Berroco Suede Color Card in case you decide to make another suede shawl when you finish this one.

We'll miss you this summer. Hopefully you'll have time to stop in once or twice and show us the felted bag and the suede shawl. (You can still stop in if you haven't finished them!)

Michelle is midway through the Alchemy Point of Reyes sweater and figured out a key factor in the pattern that we hadn't picked up on. I'm looking forward to seeing it again, sorry you had to reknit it.

She's started the back of the black lace "over" tank. It's going to be great.

We talked some more about doing the Colinette Maeve pattern in Giotto again. There's a little more research to be had. Colinette also came out with a new book of patterns for Giotto that I want to check out.

Mary brought in yarns to choose from her stash to make Jane Elliot's La Baguette bag pattern (see last Wednesday's post). We grouped them into colors and then the village took a vote. What color would you have chosen?

I found my pattern and apparently I had already been collecting yarn for it, surprisingly in blues and purples. Shocking, I know. I'm going to look through my stash of odd balls for any yarn to compliment Mary's chosen colorway. I'm not giving away the choice, you'll have to post your answer. Kind of like a reality show where they make a shameless request for you to text your choice for $.99 a text. This won't cost you!

Sheila brought in two of her sweaters in the Maeve pattern. One on the right is in the Venezia colorway and I forget the name of the other color, here it is. I still like the one on the right (the longer one) better.

Elizabeth popped in during her travels to take care of her sick dog. It was so great that she stopped in like that. How is your dog doing now?

Online Book Club

Anyone interested in an online book club? It's can be as much or little as you want.

Recommend book titles and I'll add them to the blog.

Want to discuss a book? I'll create a category for following that thread.

Just a thought. I know I don't have the time or the inclination to read a specific book for a specific date; however, I love hearing about what other people are reading and talking about it that way.

I just finished the Glass Castle by Jeannette Wells, per recommendation by Michelle, not to mention my neighbors, and through random conversations. It was a remarkably unique memoir. I can really describe it, so if you're interested, click on the link below and on the left sidebar.

Starry Night Shawl

I just got home from the first session in a 3-session workshop at Knitting Central on Jane Elliot's Starry Night Shawl. First of all, I love her patterns. They are written literally line by line, every abbreviation spelled out, and have clear schematics.

Jane's style is so easy going. The shawl starts out with a crocheted center that you then knit out from in rounds on dpn's. It's the most beautiful shawl. We were so intent on what we were doing that the store was totally silent while we got the hang of knitting the motif.

This class was so popular that two more series were scheduled to accomodate the two waiting lists for the shawl.

If I wasn't tired and not seeing straight, I'd want to sit down and make another motif! We have to make 15 all together.

June 6

We got to talking today about knitting a proper fitting garment. People's garments were either too long, too big, short/long armholes or overall funky. We came up with a plan and there's a bit of (simple) homework involved. Measure the fit of a garment you like: the chest width, length of garment to armhole, armhole length, neck width, you get the idea. Then we'll take proper body measurements and note them down. That way when you have a new pattern that's confusing as far as what size to make, you can refer to the schematic and your measurements and determine what size to make. (Always take time to get gauge too! ~ I had to put that part in there, consider it a public service announcement.) We can play around with sketching a schematic when the pattern doesn't provide one.

Cheryl is determined to finish her bag. The sewing is almost done. Good Luck!

Theresa had time to dip into her Ktog sale yarn stash and began a baby sweater gift in Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino. It's an adorable Ballerina Sweater.

She's just about up to the cap shaping on the first sleeve of the seed stitch jacket. I have a feeling when next we see you, you'll have the jacket ready to sew, the baby sweater done, and a future stash choice in the works. We'll miss you the next couple of weeks.

Mary brought all the pieces of her forever sweater and after checking the gauge and the pattern, I had to break the news that she had to "unknit" it. It was way too big. I hate having to suggest to someone to rip out a sweater. Sheilah offered to help her with it. It's beautiful yarn and will make a great cardigan, the gauge was bigger than what the pattern called for. We're all excited for the group projects we've decided upon...

Michelle is a third of the way up the Alchemy "Point of Reyes sweater". She's doing it in Debbie Bliss Stella yarn, a cotton blend. It looks fantastic. (She got the pattern and the yarn at Knitting Central. Sheilah liked the look of it and may make it too.

Well, upon Sheilah's arrival we got talking about the beautiful Colinette Maeve cardigan/sweater she was wearing. She's making the sweater version. Michelle and I took turns trying it on. I think that Michelle, Mary, and I (Sheilah - you up to another one?) may make it together. The sweater is made in Colinette Giotto yarn and the pattern is from the Akashya Book. Click on this link to view the colors (after getting to the site, click yarn, scroll down to Giotto, and you'll see the amazing color options.

Mary pulled out her binder of patterns and was showing Sheilah a Jane Elliott pattern for a bag, La Bagette (the bag is the fourth picture). We both picked up this pattern from the time Jane visited Knit Together last year. We decided we're going to sort through our odd balls/stash and make the bag together. So now we've got two group projects planned.

Last night I met with Lisa. She is a remarkable person and we had a great conversation. She's knitting an eyelet baby blanket from Blue Sky in Blue Sky Organic Cotton. She's also making the adorable Baby Bolero Jacket from the One Skein book (also in the Organic Cotton). The yarn is unbelievably soft and available at Knitting Central in Westport.

I finished the Classic Silk Tunic. I enjoyed knitting it. I've finished one of the shortie socks I'm making for one of my kids. Next come golf club covers, this will be the third set I've make. I would never of thought them to be this popular!
